  • Apprenticeships

    Apprentices 2

Wessex Water has a strong apprenticeship history and is recognised in the Top 100 Apprentice Employers. We have actively recruited apprentices and made sure that the relevant training, education and opportunities are in place to nurture and develop skills.

Many of our apprentices continue to work at Wessex Water following their training, some of whom are now fulfilling senior management roles.

Our learning and development team has a dedicated apprenticeship co-ordinator to support the apprentices’ training. We are aware that for some, this will be their first venture into work, and we aim to ensure it is both positive and productive.

An apprenticeship is a real job with practical training and taught knowledge. Our apprenticeships will allow you to learn, gain qualifications and get paid.

We have a variety of opportunities available across the business from engineering to customer service and construction to finance.  We have over 19 different types of apprenticeship at Wessex Water, so it’s likely that we have a role for you!

Salaries range between £8,000 and £14,000 depending on level, and last between 15 months and four years. We offer apprenticeships around our entire region.

    What will you be doing?

      • A worthwhile job in Wessex Water.
      • Proving tasks can be completed to a high standard.
      • Gathering evidence to show the quality of your work.
      • Taking statements from mentors.
      • Taking photographs and videos.
      • Written work.

    What you need?

      • Some of our apprenticeships need good grades in English and maths but this is not a requirement for all.
      • Communication skills and ability to work in a team.
      • Enthusiasm.
      • Attention to detail.
      • Hard work ethic.
      • Willingness to work in a busy environment.
      • Ability to work accurately and record effectively.
      • Enthusiasm to maintain our number one customer ranking.

    Training

Because we offer lots of different types of apprenticeship, there are various ways in which training takes place. You can find full details on each programme flyer found on our technical apprenticeship page.

We work predominately with Weston College and Bridgwater & Taunton College. It is not a problem if you don't live near to the college as we offer residential options where appropriate.

      • Day release – one day a week classroom based training.
      • Block release – an extended period of classroom-based training.
      • Workshop – one day a month in a Wessex Water training environment
      • Work-based learning – all training in the workplace.

    Apprenticeship open day

Our annual apprenticeship open day is always a great success and allows visitors and guests to see and understand how we work, the kind of activities we carry out, and meet some of our current and past apprentices.

The open day is an ideal opportunity to:

    •  find out about the wide range of apprenticeships we offer from level two repair and maintenance to higher level civil engineering and level three electrical and mechanical to customer services
    • take part in speed interviews
